New study on acupuncture

Website dnaindia.com this week published a piece about acupuncture relieving joint pain linked to breast cancer treatments.

A new study argues that Acupuncture could be an effective therapy for joint pain and stiffness in breast cancer patients who are being treated with commonly used hormonal therapies. The study was led by a cancer centre in New York and focused on the pain and stiffness that can be suffered in post menopausal women with breast cancer.

This is an interesting but small study. It suggests acupuncture could help patients who are taking anti-oestrogen medications such as breast cancer treatments. The anti-oestrogen effect makes the body think it is in a menopausal state. The symptoms of going through the menopause can be very unpleasant, one of them being increased joint pains and stiffness.
